Walkway cleaning should be a routine part of your home maintenance if it isn’t already. But if you’re not sure of the best way to do this, there are some basic tips you might find helpful.

  1. Concrete and brick are, surprisingly, quite delicate – You’ll want to be careful with the method you choose to clean them with. That’s why we recommend softwashing. It won’t strip away the natural sealants that your driveway needs, while also avoiding creating divots in the surface texture.
  2. Make sure the walkway is clear. While softwashing chemicals are very eco-friendly and safe, you still don’t want to use them directly on anything other than the dirt and grime you are hoping to clean away. If there are things like planter boxes or children’s bikes left out, please put those and any other loose items away before we come to clean.
  3. Focus on mold and mildew stains. Perhaps some of the most common (and harmful) contaminants of walkways and other outdoor surfaces, you want to make sure your treatment option addresses these issues at the source. This is another reason why power washing isn’t ideal for walkways; it’s far too intense and may not kill the mildew-causing fungus.

However you decide to manage your walkway cleaning plan, we recommend doing your research to make sure you know the pros and cons of different methods. If you have any questions about softwashing, please reach out to us so we can help you develop the right plan for your property.
